Zane du Randt

Coach

I started coaching in 2017 after 6 years of competitive triathlon. “I just fell in love with the sport right from the beginning and the start of a coaching career was the obvious next move. I love to help people and see them achieve their goals.

I do have quite an aggressive approach to coaching as I train hard myself. I believe that you must have those “dark” sessions if you want to achieve your goals.

Shorter intervals at high intensity is what is believe in as I have seen you can get more out of quality rather than quantity. In saying that, I myself have had my fair share of injuries so I do manage my athletes very carefully to make sure they are not burned out and injured, but fresh and ready to race.

I have coached athletes to Ironman, Cape Epic, Cycling and running stage race finishes and other multisport events. My aim is to educate my athletes about training, nutrition and recovery. I believe that an athlete must understand why he needs to do a specific session or eat a specific meal in order to persevere and keep going.

In the end, I want my athletes to enjoy their sport, because in the end, that is what it’s all about.

Donovan Stoop

Coach

After years and years of meandering through the road cycling wilderness, I entered and paid for my first long distance triathlon without ever swimming a competitive stroke or running further than 3 or 4km in one go. What followed was 6 months of firsts and 6 months of feeling new pain. I joined a swim squad, bought some running shoes and fell in love with a new sport. The race itself was amazing, and I haven’t looked back since.

There is a lot of sacrifice that goes into preparing for an endurance event, whether long or short-distance, and this preparation can be daunting for someone just entering a sport or thinking about entering a race. I take pride in coaching these athletes that are trying to complete firsts. I love the interaction, the ability to motivate and the joy of seeing and sharing incremental improvements.

I coach athletes of all levels. From people wanting to do their first 10k road race, to others qualifying and competing in Ironman and Xterra World Champs. Every athlete has their own story, own motivation and own goal. Each one of these athletes’ goals and wellbeing are very important to me.

I really enjoy setting programmes that are individual-specific. Programmes that take into account that life exists outside of sport, and that normal life and training co-exist for different people in different ways. As an athlete with a young family, I understand the pressures that come with wanting to do specific events while at the same time being present for the family, and for work.

I enjoy training and preparing for my own races, even while coaching. I firmly believe that coaching and training is ever evolving, and I take learnings from my own experiences and translate them into sessions or advice that will ultimately benefit the athletes that I coach. Welcome to #teamdon
