Benefits of having an Online Triathlon Coach
Wingman Coaching specializes in online coaching and we have been doing this since 2015, quite some time before COVID-19 forced most people from their offices into their homes and from board meetings onto Zoom.
So how do we coach athletes online?
Through the unbelievable technology available today we first get acquainted during the onboarding call through your preferred video platform. During this call, we will discuss your goals, available training time, strengths, weaknesses, history, etc.
Based on the information you’ve provided, your online triathlon coach will then design your plan of attack by writing the pertinent workouts and combine these workouts into a structured plan which will get delivered electronically on your (free) basic TrainingPeaks® account.
The TrainingPeaks® software also has a free app that you can use to see your training calendar with daily, weekly, and monthly workouts. TrainingPeaks® can push your workouts to the newer model sports watches, devices, and even training software like Zwift. You will then be guided through the workout in real-time. Your screen will show the required running pace, or bike power and cadence with electronic beeps prompting you to increase or decrease your effort to hit the target pace, power, or cadence. This way you will complete the workout the way it was designed by your online triathlon coach, ensuring you train in the right zone and work on the applicable aerobic or anaerobic system.
Once you have completed your workout and press “save” the training data automatically exports to your coach. The level of detail your coach receives is astonishing and depending on your device and accessories it should be the basic data like duration, distance, intensity, elevation, average heart rate, max heart rate pace, and power, all the way to advance metrics like pace: hr, normalized power, ground contact time and efficiency factor.
